The DSAP Clinic – Specialist Dermatology Consultation

Expert assessment and treatment for Disseminated Superficial Actinic Porokeratosis (DSAP)

The Private Clinic by Dickson Chemist

Specialist care for a persistent and often frustrating skin condition

Disseminated Superficial Actinic Porokeratosis (DSAP) is a chronic skin condition characterised by small, dry, scaly or reddish patches, most commonly affecting the arms and legs. It is frequently associated with long-term sun exposure and can be difficult to manage using conventional skincare treatments.

At The DSAP Clinic by Dickson Chemist, we offer personalised consultations, specialist pharmaceutical advice and access to prescription treatments to help patients manage their condition and improve the appearance and comfort of their skin.

Understanding DSAP

DSAP is a disorder of skin keratinisation, often presenting as multiple small, circular lesions with a slightly raised, scaly border.

Although generally benign, DSAP can be cosmetically distressing, persistent and occasionally uncomfortable. A small proportion of lesions may undergo malignant transformation, making appropriate assessment and monitoring important.

There is currently no guaranteed cure for DSAP, but emerging treatment approaches offer additional options for patients who have struggled with conventional management.

Our Treatment Approach

Our clinic focuses on individualised treatment, including consideration of newer and emerging therapies.

Treatment options may include:

  • Topical lovastatin-based treatment – an emerging therapeutic approach targeting the mevalonate pathway involved in the development of porokeratosis.
  • Compounded prescription preparations – individually prepared formulations where clinically appropriate.
  • Skin barrier support – advice on moisturisers, emollients and managing dryness or irritation.
  • Sun protection and prevention – practical guidance on reducing UV-related damage.
  • Ongoing monitoring – reviewing treatment response and identifying lesions requiring further dermatological investigation.

Topical lovastatin, sometimes combined with cholesterol, has shown promising results in clinical studies. However, it remains an off-label or unlicensed treatment approach, and individual responses vary.

What Happens During Your Consultation?

Your consultation will include:

  1. A detailed review of your skin symptoms and medical history.
  2. Assessment of your existing DSAP diagnosis and affected areas.
  3. Discussion of previous treatments and their effectiveness.
  4. Consideration of appropriate prescription treatment options.
  5. A personalised management plan, including follow-up where necessary.

Where a diagnosis is uncertain or a lesion has suspicious features, referral for further dermatological assessment may be recommended.

Why Choose The DSAP Clinic?

At The Private Clinic by Dickson Chemist, we combine specialist pharmaceutical knowledge with an interest in emerging dermatological treatments.

Our aim is to provide patients with access to carefully assessed treatment options, particularly where standard approaches have provided limited benefit.
